Entries Open for 2026 Ahuwhenua Horticulture Awards
Entries are now open for the 2026 Ahuwhenua Trophy – Excellence in Māori Horticulture Award and the Ahuwhenua Young Māori Grower Award.
Announced at the Horticulture New Zealand conference in Wellington, Māori Trustee Dr Charlotte Severne says the awards celebrate Māori success in horticulture, with Māori now contributing at least 10% of Aotearoa’s kiwifruit exports.
Nukuhia Hadfield, Chair of the Ahuwhenua Trophy Management Committee, says the competitions offer valuable insights and networking for growers, and the Young Grower Award has helped build a strong alumni of Māori leaders.
The Ahuwhenua Trophy was founded in 1933 to uplift Māori in farming and horticulture, inspired by Sir Apirana Ngata.
Winners will be announced at a gala dinner in Whangārei on 5 June 2026.
