Koroneihana 2025 Set to Ignite Rangatahi Spark in Kiingitanga
Koroneihana 2025 is set to bring a renewed spark to the Kiingitanga, says representative Rahui Papa.
The five-day programme runs from September 2nd to 6th at Tūrangawaewae Marae, featuring pōwhiri for kawe mate, kapa haka from kura and iwi across the motu, and the welcoming of ariki from Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa.
Papa says Friday’s highlight is the 28-year-old Queen Te Arikinui Kuini Nga wai hono i te po’s first formal address since succeeding her father, Kiingi Tuheitia, in 2024.
The young monarch has already brought a fresh energy and youthful spark to the movement
“Our rangatahi whānau, and these were quite small children, 10 and 11, that wanted to come because they knew Te Arikinui would be there. And so they travelled in excess of six or seven hours to the various hui because of her presence. And I think there’s been a renewed sort of Spark in the rangatahi for the Kiingitanga and for more rangatahi participation,” says Papa.
