Greens MP Kahurangi Carter is calling for a societal shift to prioritise mokopuna through the Seven Duties of Care—a kaupapa Māori framework for environmental and social justice.
This week, the Greens launched a petition alongside an open letter to Children’s Minister Karen Chhour, urging her to commit to seven promises shaped by care-experienced youth, whānau, Māori leaders, and community providers.
Carter says the letter is a call for multi-partisan collaboration.
“In politics, there’s a lot of politics that gets played. We need to rise above that, to put our tamariki first, and that’s what this is about. It’s a call to ask to work together. It’s a call to ask to listen to the kids that have been through the system and to make sure that kids get everything they need to thrive,” says Carter.
