Te Tiriti and Constitutional Lawyer Tania Waikato has been threatened with violence for her opposition to the Treaty Principles and Regulatory Standard Bills.

Waikato presented to the Finance and Expenditure select committee on Tuesday and told the members of the escalating security risks surrounding the bill as a result of the Deputy Prime Minister’s attacks on prominent academics like Dame Anne Salmon and Dr George Laking.

She says her and two wahine expert witnesses had their addresses published by right wing extremists inciting hatred and violence toward them.

Waikato also told the committee that the Regulatory Standards Bill is an affront to the constitutional foundations of Aotearoa.
It is a cowardly, covert attack that desecrates the partnership between Maori and the Crown.
The Bill is a blatant and audacious attempt by the ACT Party and its foreign sponsors to subvert our democratic processes for their private gain and constitutionally entrench their far-right political views into the very fabric of our society.
