Te Ururoa Flavell backs changes to Māori Land Act
Former Te Pāti Māori leader Te Ururoa Flavell is praising Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka for starting the process to revise the Ture Whenua Māori Act.
Te Puni Kōkiri begins face-to-face seminars today in Te Taitokerau, starting in Rawene, to collect public feedback on proposed amendments to the 1993 Act.
Flavell expressed regret for not making changes during his tenure and anticipates meaningful discussions at the hui, as Māori are passionate about te reo and whenua.
“You know, it is what it is, it happened, and as I say, I’m happy that the Minister is going to have a shot at it,” says Flavell
Public recommendations are welcome until May 23.
