Ngāpuhi, Police Unite to Fight Meth Crisis
Ngāpuhi chair Mane Tahere says the iwi is ready to take the lead alongside Police to tackle meth in Te Taitokerau.
Yesterday, he spoke with Ministers Mark Mitchell, Tama Potaka and Shane Jones in an online meeting to kickstart short, medium, and long-term plans to address the crisis.
Tahere says being a cop in the region isn’t easy, so as an iwi representative, his message is clear.
“Firstly, the message is, if you’re on P, simply get off. If you’re involved in the distribution, get lost. We’re rangatira people, and this is not a rangatira kaupapa,” says Tahere.
Mitchell says another meeting is planned in the coming weeks to keep the momentum going.
