Chairman of Te Rūnanga a Iwi o Ngapuhi, Mane Tahere says Ngāpuhi want to shoulder the responsibility and champion the eradication of methamphetamine in Northland with the Police.

Yesterday, he spoke with Ministers Mark Mitchell, Tama Potaka and Shane Jones in an online meeting to kickstart short, medium, and long-term plans to address the crisis.
Tahere says being a cop in the region isn’t easy, so as an iwi representative, his message is clear.
“Firstly, the message is, if you’re on P, simply get off. If you’re involved in the distribution, get lost. We’re rangatira people, and this is not a rangatira kaupapa,” says Tahere.
Mitchell says another meeting is planned in the coming weeks to keep the momentum going.
