The Justice Committee has completed its hearings into the Treaty Principles Bill and will recommend to Parliament that this bill not proceed.
The report was released on Friday and says the recommendation to stop the Bill is unanimous.
The majority of submissions opposed the Bill, with the overarching themes that it breached the Treaty/te Tiriti, that its development and process were flawed, and that it harmed Crown–Māori relationships.
Concerns were raised when Prime Minister Christopher Luxon stated that unread submissions should be binned.
The ACT Party, however, allowed the Justice Committee additional time to table these and place them on official records.
The Bill is back in the House for its second reading in May when the National Party is expected to vote it down.
