MetService has issued a warning about strong winds and heavy rain affecting parts of the North Island as the largest weather system to date impacts the country.
Meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane indicates that South Taranaki, Taihape, and Whanganui are expected to experience the strongest winds, with a strong wind watch in effect for Friday.
The Chatham Islands may also encounter strong winds overnight from Friday into Saturday.
By Friday evening, the heaviest rain should clear, but eastern Bay of Plenty may still experience some lingering effects.
The weekend is anticipated to be mostly dry, although showers may return to areas that received heavy rainfall, particularly on Sunday.
