Greens push for Israeli sanctions bill support
Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson announced growing support for a sanctions bill against Israel as the conflict in Gaza escalates.
Recent Israeli airstrikes reportedly killed over 400 Palestinians, marking the deadliest strike since 2023 and ending a ceasefire from January.
Greens co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick introduced the Unlawful Occupation of Palestine Sanctions Bill in December, seeking to impose sanctions on Israel similar to those on Russia.
Davidson says there is a need for six more MPs beyond Labour and Te Pāti Māori support to advance the bill and urged the public to contact local MPs.
“Every child in any conflict in war zone should be a taonga, and it’s not just children. It’s children, women, men, grandparents just completely getting obliterated,” says Davidson.
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters has called for a ceasefire to alleviate regional suffering
