New Zealand rugby legend Dame Farah Palmer says rugby is leading the charge, but more can be done to get more wāhine onto decision-making platforms.

Next Saturday is International Women’s Day, and Palmer will join baking entrepreneur Jordan Rondel, model Jessica Clarke, professional race car driver Breanne Morris, and humanitarian Stu Robertson on a discussion panel in Auckland to kōrero about spotlighting influential narratives of women and men who have shaped industries.

Palmer says that in rugby, many women are taking leadership roles at the provincial and club levels, but this needs to continue at the higher levels of rugby administration.

“We’ve got a network of wahine who are shoulder tapping women they know that will be amazing for those roles. So there’s a whole lot of different things we have to do. I suppose it’s like, you can’t just have one strategy. You’ve got to have multiple strategies, and you just got to keep going and keep applying pressure,” says Palmer.

The International Women’s Day #LeadersLegendsLuminaries event is taking place tonight at the PwC Tower from 5 p.m.
