Hipkins criticizes National, ACT economic philosophy
Labour leader Chris Hipkins says National and ACT’s philosophy of money as mana is not what New Zealanders are looking for.
This week, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon told media he was open to discussing asset sales during the next election cycle, while ACT Party leader David Seymour proposed privatising healthcare in his State of the Nation speech last week.
Hipkins criticises the government for deliberately running down public services through defunding and enabling overseas investors to buy New Zealand assets, which he says ultimately makes the country poorer.
“This is a government. It’s all about privilege, and you don’t just need to take my word for that. Even Roger Douglas, who set up the ACT Party, who I don’t often agree with these days, has said that he thinks the ACT Party is all about privilege and all about protecting people with money and not about providing opportunity for people to get ahead,” says Hipkins.
Chris Hipkins says Seymour’s philosophy on privatising healthcare prioritises the profits of the wealthy over the well-being of the majority.
