New Te Whare Wānanga o Aotearoa CEO Evie O’Brien has officially been welcomed to the wānanga.
The pōwhiri, held yesterday morning in Te Awamutu and live-streamed via the wānanga’s Facebook page, formalized the executive change announced last month.
O’Brien, who returned to the wānanga after serving in several tertiary education leadership roles worldwide, says she aims to utilize the skills honed throughout her career to build on the wānanga’s current achievements, particularly acknowledging the dedication of its passionate staff.
“I guess when the conditions are right, this creates the perfect environment for world-leading innovation, for doing what hasn’t been done before, and most importantly, I think, for programming that has been developed in response to current needs of whānau, hapū and iwi,” says O’Brien.
Evie O’Brien will officially succeed Nepia Winiata in February.
