The Te Arawa Lakes Trust has appointed Wally Haumaha as Chairman and Te Ururoa Flavell as Deputy Chairman, marking a new chapter in its leadership.
Haumaha, the former Deputy Chief Executive of Māori and Commissioner of the New Zealand Police assumed the role yesterday at a historic hui held on his marae within Ngāti Ngāraranui — the first such occasion in the trust’s 100-year history.
Haumaha expressed his commitment to honouring the legacy of past Te Arawa leaders while preparing the next generation to meet the needs of their people.
Flavell, the former co-leader of Te Pāti Māori and Minister of Māori Development, has stepped into the Deputy Chairman role, bringing decades of political and community leadership experience to the position.
This new leadership follows the appointment of five new trustees to the board at the Trust’s AGM last December.
