Dame Nea Collins honoured for decades of service
Dame Nea Ingrid Collins has been honoured for 50 years of service to the Whāngārā B5 Incorporation and Whāngārā Farms on the East Coast.
Collins was appointed a Dame of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Year Honours for her contributions to Māori, business, and health governance.
Her decades of leadership and governance, including representing Aotearoa on the United Nations Indigenous Forum, have been instrumental in transforming Whāngārā Farms into a sustainable and thriving agribusiness.
Collins says her work on the global stage has been about demonstrating that Māori and Pākehā can collaborate effectively to achieve both economic and social outcomes.
“When we presented how we had helped people to put them on that world and international stage, it wasn’t about any issues that we had, because back then, we didn’t. We were hell-bent on bringing our farms up to the top echelons,” says Collins.
Dame Nea Collins says she pays respect to the old farmers who mentored her in her early years to the success she has today.
