Waitangi Tribunal welcomes eight new appointees

Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka has appointed eight new members to the Waitangi Tribunal.

Announced on Friday, the new appointees join five members whose terms have been renewed.

The new appointees are:

• Tipene Chrisp, General Manager of Rangitāne Tū Mai Rā Trust
• Philip Crump, NZ On Air board member
• Vanessa Eparaima (Raukawa, Ngāti Tūwharetoa), Chairperson of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa council
• Rex Edward Hale, an experienced public servant
• Grant Hadfield, Manawatū district councillor
• Kingi Kiriona (Ngāti Ruanui, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Apa), kapa haka exponent
• Ron Mark, former Minister of Defence
• Professor Tafaoimalo Tologata Leiland Tuala-Warren, University of Waikato law professor

Potaka says the new members bring a range of knowledge and skills and were appointed for their broad expertise in the matters likely to come before the Tribunal.

The renewed members are:

• Dr. Ruakere Hond
• Derek Fox
• Kim Ngarimu
• Dr. Hana O’Regan
• Professor Sir Pou Temara

The new members will serve a three-year term.
