Mangamuka Gorge reopens to public tomorrow

Today, Transport Minister Simeon Brown officially reopened the Mangamuka Gorge on State Highway 1.

The gorge is a vital connection between the Mid-North and the Far North, and its closure has added up to an extra hour of travel for those heading to Kaitaia, whether detouring through Kaeo or Broadwood.

Brown highlighted that Northland has faced several challenges in recent years, particularly with road closures and resilience issues.

He expressed his gratitude to the more than 1,000 workers who tirelessly worked to reopen the Mangamuka Gorge after its closure in August 2022.

The road will be open to the public starting tomorrow.
