The Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa is calling on our government to follow Australia’s example and deny entry to Israeli soldiers over concerns about potential war crimes in Palestine.
National Chair John Minto says Israeli soldiers are likely to shift their focus to Aotearoa, which they can easily do under the current visa-free scheme.
“You know if we’re serious about the Genocide Convention – which New Zealand has stood up for and said ‘we are going to prevent and punish the crime of genocide – then New Zealand should be saying ‘no, we’re not going to have Israeli troops coming here,” says Minto.
Over 9,000 Māori have signed a petition supporting Palestine, and John Minto says he believes most New Zealanders want our government to demand a ceasefire.
