The Public Service Association is criticizing the largest kaupapa Māori disability support provider, Te Roopu Taurima o Manukau Trust, for its collective bargaining agreement proposal.
Today, workers will stop their mahi for an hour in protest against the trust’s intention to add secondary employment restrictions and introduce 90-day trial periods.
PSA National Sector Lead Josh Gardner says the 43 union members of Te Roopu Taurima o Manukau Trust unanimously voted to take strike action.
He says just because 90-day trials are available doesn’t mean they will work.
“We’re always about resolving things at the lowest level and having a robust conversation and moving forward and looking for solutions. And we see no difference here. We’ve tried to counter their claims with productive engagement and working things through and surely that sits within their kaupapa as well,” says Gardner.
