A group of Māori photographers has come together to run a photography workshop aimed at revitalizing Māori practices within the art of photography.
With the support of Waikato-Tainui Te Rawhitiroa Bosch, Erica Sinclair, and Rhavyon Mihaere held, Wānanga Whakaahua, recently in Ngāruawāhia.
Bosch says the most important lesson is teaching participants how to capture Māori stories with accuracy and integrity, avoiding a Pākehā lens.
He says what distinguishes a Māori lens from a Pākehā lens is adherence to tikanga and kaupapa, and how the shot relates to both.
Ultimately, the photographers aim for participants to share te ao Māori in a distinctly Māori way.
