Moana NZ celebrates 20 Years of success
Moana New Zealand Chief Executive Steve Tarrant says the largest Māori-owned fisheries company in New Zealand is not just celebrating 20 years in business—it’s celebrating a team effort that has underpinned its success.
Moana NZ earns about $175 million a year for its Māori shareholders, employs about 330 full-time staff, and many more seasonal workers.
Additionally, it contracts 300 to 400 diving and fishing operators and strives to support community businesses wherever possible.
Steve Tarrant says Moana NZ’s continued success is due to its loyal customers, with the broader team playing a crucial role in maintaining that loyalty.
“Twenty years is amazing you know? And you go back through the history, and there’s been a lot happen. And for me, it’s a shout-out to our kaimahi, to our shareholders, to the governors who have given us real strong direction. And obviously, also the contractors that fish and dive for us – and without forgetting the communities that we operate in,” says Tarrant.
Steve Tarrant says the COVID-19 pandemic was one of the most challenging periods, but the fishing industry has faced many ups and downs over the past 20 years.
Despite these challenges, Moana NZ has not only stayed afloat but has thrived.
