Manurewa MP Arena Williams urges rangatahi to speak out on the Treaty Principles Bill.
On Wednesday, following a 40,000-plus-strong hīkoi to Parliament, the Justice Select Committee opened public submissions on the bill.
Williams says the protest demonstrated strong opposition to attacks on the Treaty and encouraged rangatahi to share their views, particularly in person.
“You just need to talk about your vision for the kind of Aotearoa that you want to see. One that respects Te Tiriti o Waitangi, one where you have a place to stand in your mana. That is a powerful submission and to come along and to speak to that that will change people’s minds,” says Williams.
Submissions close on January 7, 2025, with details on the Parliament website.
