This week, over 500 Indigenous researchers from around the world are gathering for the International Indigenous Research Conference, hosted by Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga at Waipapa Marae in Auckland.
Today, Che Wilson, director of Naia Limited, will deliver a keynote on Mana Motuhake, celebrating culture in events like King Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero VII’s hui mate and national Matariki celebrations.
He says attending yesterday’s activation of Toitū Te Tiriti was a show of unity between tangata Māori and tangata Tiriti, celebrating and supporting each other.
“The wairua of the hikoi was one of conscious unity. That’s how it felt. You know, we’re all there for the same purpose, and let’s not be distracted by anything else, and let’s celebrate what it is to be Aotearoa,” says Wilson.
