Veteran rugby league commentator Ken Laban says as the sun sets on Shaun Johnson’s international career, the Kiwis’ future looks bright.
Yesterday, the Kiwis avoided relegation from the Pacific Championship, winning 54-12 against the Papua New Guinea Kumuls in Sydney.
Laban says with Johnson’s departure, a new potential Kiwi superstar, winger Casey McLean from the Penrith Panthers, showcased his talent on debut, scoring four tries—three of which came in a 16-minute span in the second half.
“He’s a precocious talent for somebody to be so good, so young, and the fact that he has worn the Kiwi jersey is a very, very astute move by New Zealand to keep an eye on the best young players coming through that are eligible for selection. So good on him and good on the Kiwis for selecting him,” says Laban.
