Labour Leader Chris Hipkins is confident his party colleagues won’t oust him before the 2026 elections despite the latest 1News-Verian poll.
The coalition government, as a bloc, is still well ahead, with NZ First at 5 percent and ACT at 8 percent, giving them a total of 63 seats in Parliament compared to Labour, Greens, and Te Pāti Māori, which have a combined total of 58 seats.
Labour is down one percentage point to 29 percent, yet gains three more seats due to other shifts in Parliament.
“I certainly have the support of my team. Our goal over the next two years is to rebuild our support. If you were to look at the polls three years ago, you wouldn’t have picked a National led government following the last election, would you?” says Hipkins.
