Te Pāti Māori Party co-leader Rawiri Waititi says New Zealand is complicit in the expanding war in the Middle East through its failure to speak out against Israel’s provocations and escalation.
The party has called for the expulsion of Israel’s ambassador.
He says Israel can’t play the aggressor and the victim at the same time.
“Over 41,000 Palestinians have lost their lives or have been murdered in the past 12 months and people say ‘the Palestinians waged war on the Israelis.’ Well actually, let’s look at the 70-plus years they have been under attack by Israel prompted up by the Americans,’ Mr Waititi says.
Te Pāti Māori is also concerned with support for AUKUS, the security agreement between Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, which threatens New Zealand’s mana motuhake as an independent nation.
