Te Pāti Māori president John Tamihere says MP Hana Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke can be a catalyst for change globally.

The Hauraki-Waikato MP is in Canada where she has just picked up a Youth Politician of the Year award at the One Young World Summit.

He says as the youngest person ever elected to the New Zealand parliament, Ms Rawhiti Clarke has given hope for young Māori in Aotearoa where a third of Māori are under the age of 27.

“When you put a face and a personality and the capacity and capability of a person like Hana up, they break the glass ceilings that constrain us. We can see opportunities, we can never get to it. So what she does is give them the hope they can do the same thing,” he says.

Mr Tamihere says there is now a huge global takeup of Hana Maipi-Clarke’s social media posts.
