New Zealand Māori Tourism is urging Māori operators to sign up for workshops run by its mainstream counterpart Tourism New Zealand on boosting their off-peak tourism offerings.
Chair Dale Stephens says it’s critical operators learn how to appeal to the wholesalers who buy tourism packages and then on sell them to people before they leave their own countries.
“I think they’ll find the immense value of trying to understand the vagaries of how you navigate your way through these international markets. It’s actually really difficult. Tourism New Zealand can make it a little easier for them but it’s also hugely important to getting those visitors understand and recognise the opportunities to visit our operators across the motu,” he says.
