A Saint Stephen’s old boy says it’s great to see the old buildings rededicated for school use after being boarded up since the turn of the century.
Mahia Nathan says more than 200 old boys and supporters turned out for the ceremony on Saturday at the former Māori boys’ boarding school at Bombay, on Auckland’s southern fringe.
“This rededication of the learning spaces, the accommodation, the dining area, a refurbishment of some of the older buildings that are still usable – the Whitiora block and then we’ve got the east side block which is where the classrooms will be, the lower level will be year 9, upper-level year 10, and then the Whitiora block is the accommodation,” he says.
Tipene is set to reopen next year with a small cohort of students.
