Gambling harm services are sounding the alarm at a surge in gambling advertising.
Karaitiana Tickell from Purapura Whetu Trust says the collective has launched a petition calling on government to tackle the unregulated advertising.
He says it’s having a big impact on young people, especially when it comes up on social media like TikTok.
“The big ticket item here is we want to remove the advertising from our media sources and minimise that opportunity for people who aren’t actively seeking out a gambling opportunity, to not have that in front of them,” Mr Tickell says.
