The chair of the independent panel which worked with Police on addressing bias and inequity says they had unprecedented access to the inner workings of the service.
The Understanding Policing Delivery report released this week found widespread and systemic racial bias in the way police operate.
Professor Khylee Quince says Police Commissioner Andrew Coster gave the researchers access to databases and staff.
“Some of the data we have used has come from the front lines, talking about systemic bias in the police against them, by their own officers. So partly this is about community voice but it is also about police voice too and being able to speak to oficers to ask them how they are currently unsafe and how we might make improvements to keep them safe,” she sayts.
Police say they have already started work on implementing the first eight of the report’s 40 recommendations.
