A charity offering mobile laundry and shower services for homelss whanau has made it to Hastings.
Orange Sky start in Australia and has been in Aotearoa since 2018, with its vans operating in Auckland Wellington, Christchurch and Hamilton.
Senior impact manager Kat Doughty says it can be a godsend for those using it as well as being satisfying for volunteers.
“The ability to connect with whānau in a way that is sometimes challenging for most people in our community, that we can give them some dignity and uplift their mana by just providing clean laundry – its quite phenomenal really,” she says.
Demand in Auckland has tripled since Orange Sky started there six years ago, and the trend is the same in other locations.
