Kaipara Moana Remediation is fast approaching getting two million trees in the ground in only two and a half years.
Pou tātaki Justine Daw says in its most recent planting day, it worked with Conservation Volunteers New Zealand to plant native species on the Webber Family Farm on South Head.
She says planting days are about sharing restoration concepts and methods with the wider community so they understand the kaupapa and are confident enough to do it themselves.
The organisation, which is a partnership between iwi and local councils and the Ministry for the Environment, has trained 115 people in the past year alone, many of whom were young people from local hapū and communities.
KMR aims to protect and restore the mauri of the Kaipara Moana, with the long-term aspiration to halve sediment flows into the harbour.
