The Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa says the Government needs to act immediately on a judgment by the International Court of Justice that Israeli occupation and creation of settlements in West Bank and East Jerusalem are illegal.
Chair John Minto says all states have an obligation not to recognise the occupation as legal and not to give aid or support towards maintaining it.
He says the United Nations Security Council has already declared the settlements were illegal, but the new judgment says the military occupation of Palestine since 1967 was also illegal and Israel should withdraw and remove its people.
“The first thing is for New Zealand to stop investing in the companies that are helping with the illegal occupation and if we were a halfway decent country we would say to Israel ‘we want you to abide by this decision and we are going to impose sanctions on you if you don’t,’” Mr Minto says.
Mr Minto says the bombs which have killed more than 35,000 Palestinians in Gaza are made in the United States with guidance systems that use crystal oscillators made by Auckland company Rakon.
Some 490,000 Israeli settlers live in the West Bank alongside some three million Palestinians.
Since the start of this year 25 settlement outposts — not even authorised by Israel — have sprung up across the West Bank according to Peace Now, a settlement watchdog.
