Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says he will make a formal apology to victims of abuse in state care at a ceremony at Parliament in November.
The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Historical Abuse in State and Faith-based Care handed its report to the Governor General last month.
The inquiry lasted six years.
Mr Luxon says it was Aotearoa-New Zealand’s largest and most complex public inquiry.
The report and its recommendations will be made public when the report is presented to parliament tomorrow, July 24.
“I want to acknowledge nearly 3000 survivors who shared their stories of abuse and neglect. It’s important that the crown addresses and acknowledges the experiences of abuse in care at a national level. I will make the public apology here at Parliament on the 12th of November,” Mr Luxon says.
Suvivors and their whānau are expected to attend the presentation of the report to parliament on tomorrow.
