No good options for Darleen Tana
New Zealand First deputy leader Shane Jones says former Green MP Darleen Tana will not be remembered fondly if she stays in politics.
Ms Tana gave a lengthy television interview yesterday in which she claimed she was isolated and silenced by the party, and that she didn’t get natural justice in the investigation into what she knew about allegations of migrant worker exploitation at her husband’s e-bike business.
Mr Jones says it’s a sad affair which lays bare the hypocrisy of the Green Party, which loses its proportionality if Ms Tana stays on as an independent.
“The Green Party don’t like the waka jumping legislation but they have the chance to send Darleen back to Waiheke. If they don’t use it then obviously they believe they have done something wrong or they refuse to accept they themselves have created this outcome,” he says.
Mr Jones says it’s a trying time for Ms Tana, but he’d advise her to leave politics rather than hand on for her parliamentary salary.
