The Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka says pressure from coalition partners may have affected the Budget allocation for Māori purposes.
Tama Potaka discussed the Budget at a breakfast this morning at Te Puni Kōkiri’s Wellington head office.
He says while there has been a cut in funding for Māori housing and Matariki there are still positive whānau-centred initiatives happening.
“I operate within a coalition envelope and understand our leadership negotiated various agreements with other parties, but I look at positive and constructive things happening out in the communities and our ability to enable them, more locally-led and whanau-led and locally-delivered government-enabled projects, whether that’s Whanau Ora or some of the Maori enterprise development projectstaking place up and down the country,” he says.
