Coxhead secures number 2 role at Māori Land Court
Craig Coxhead has been named deputy chief judge of the Māori Land Court, replacing Wilson Isaac who has retired.
Judge Coxhead, from Ngāti Makino, Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Awa, and Ngāti Maru, has been on the court since 2008.
Maori Development Minister Tama Potaka says he has extensive knowledge of tikanga Māori and experience of Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 and the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975.
Mr Potaka also appointed Nathan Milner as a judge of the court.
Mr Milner, from Ngāti Porou and Ngāi Tahu, started his legal career at a large national law firm before joining Kahui Legal.
He was extensively involved in the Ngāti Porou foreshore and seabed negotiations as well as a number of other Treaty of Waitangi settlement and natural resource-related negotiation with the Crown.
More recently he has been working as research counsel and then assistant to Māori Land Court Chief Judge Caren Fox.
