Labour’s finance spokesperson Barbara Edmonds says Māori have been ignored in the Budget.
She told Radio Waatea she has been going through the stages of grief, from shock to anger at the savagery of the cuts made by Finance Minister Nicola Willis.
She says it will be especially hard on young Māori and Pasifika.
“All the support systems we had put through to help those on lower incomes to upskill and train, this Government has come through with the back of their hand and swiped everything off the table and has said to Māori and Pacific people ‘what’s good for the general public is good for you.’ We know that’s not right and we need a different approach and we were walking towards a different approach,” Ms Edmonds says.
National has talked up social investment, but there is no funding for it in the Budget.
