Treaty, rich ground for current affairs
Te Ao with Moana presenter Moana Maniapoto says the coalition Government is providing the Whakaata Māori current affairs show ample material for its sixth season.
The musician and Māori rights advocate has started the year with a special focus on Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including this week’s conversation with former treaty negotiations minister Christopher Finlayson and commentator Matthew Hooton.
She’s also interested in the insights of non-Māori working in treaty education who are countering the narrative pushed by Government parties.
“These people have been starting conversations with different communities. They don’t feel threatened by te Tiriti. They said there’s a lot of people out there that want to know. That are a little bit confused. So we talked about why they are confused, and how to un-confuse them,” Ms Maniapoto says.
