New Zealand Māori Rugby has come out in support of teams using haka for political potests.
The Hurricanes Poua women’s team has come under fire for a season-openng haka including a line expressing oppoisiton to what was translated as puppets of this redneck government.
New Zealand Rugby board member Dame Farah Palmer the next step is up to the players.
“They always apparently intended to do the haka for their first game and for their first home game. I think they were going to do a haka if they made the finals so they haven’t been muzzled, that’s jkust a team decision. They decide when and where they will do the haka,” she says.
Hurricanes Poua are third on the Super Rugby Aupiki table. with the final in mid April.
