Economy biggest kaupapa says Potaka
New Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka says the coalition Government’s most important kaupapa is to get the economy back on track.
He accused the previous Government, which steered the country through a pandemic and the closing of borders, of economic vandalism.
Moves such as changing the Reserve Bank mandate to focus solely on inflation will help get the economic waka back on track.
“That’s where we’re at and that doesn’t just affect people living in a certain part of the country. That affects the whole country and the whole population of the country. If we can get the economy back on track, if we can take steps to lower inflation, if we can take steps that mean banks can lower interest rates, everyone will be better off including Māori,” Tama Potaka says.
He says dropping fair pay agreements and giving employers more flexibility means they’re more likely to hire people than if they are worrying about compliance.
