Te Arikinui name adds mana to airport hotel

Download AudioThe chair of Waikato-Tainui’s commercial arm says naming Auckland Airport’s newest hotel Te Arikinui reflects its status as the airport’s first 5-star hotel.
The Pullman-branded hotel next to the tribe’s Novotel at the international terminal opens for guests tomorrow.
It’s a 50/50 venture between Tainui Group Holdings and Auckland Airport, with Accor Hotels handling hotel operations.
Hinerangi Raumati-Ta’au says the name was gifted by Kīngi Tūhaitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero VII.
“Te Arikinui brings with it both the translation of the word into English, but also recognition that it’s about excellence and it’s about the standard of manaaki and it’s about the way in which the building’s been designed so that all of those things are actually captured in that name Te Arikinui,” she says.
