Haere rā to Pacific health leader
Health Minister Shane Reti says he respects the decision of Pacific health leader Sir Collin Tukuitonga to resign from his advisory roles.
Sir Collin, who chaired Te Whatu Ora’s Pacific Senate, says he has no confidence the new Government would treat Pacific people well, and he wants to be free to speak up and speak out.
Dr Reti says he respects Sir Collin’s work and in this instance his decision to resign.
“Collin’s not the kind of person to sit on his hands, never has been, and so I’m sure he will contribute in other ways than what he felt he could here in this instance. I just want to respect his decision and wish him well and I’m sure our paths will cross in many other ways,” he says.
Dr Reti says the Government should be judge by what it has achieved in year three, not in week three.
