Mead unlocks key to mātauranga
Whakatane-based Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi has launched an online lecture series to explore Māori knowledge frameworks through the experience of Māori experts and practitioners.
The first lectures are by the wananga’s founder, Distinguished Professor, Tā Hirini Moko Mead, and his daughter Dr Linda Tuhiwai Smith.
Tā Hirini says the aim of the series is to foster a deeper appreciation for the role of mātauranga in Māori culture and society.
“It is a knowledge system that’s actually tied in to all the other cultural systems in the Māori world. It’s tied into tikanga, it’s tied into everyday practices of people. It’s a pool of knowledge that anyone could draw on,” he says.
The lectures are available on the Awanuiārangi website.
