Costello puts Port Waikato on notice
New Zealand First MP Casey Costello says she’s in parliament to rattle some cages.
Ms Costello is starting her parliamentary career by standing in the Port Waikato byelection, even though the other major political parties opted not to take on the probable winner, National’s Andrew Bayly.
She says it’s the area where she lives and where she did most of her police service, but it has lost its voice now the northern half including Pukekohe has been dragged into the Auckland super city.
“We’re kind of a provincial town. We think provincially but we’e kind of forced into being part of Auckland city so all the same stuff, our roading, our health services, our police services – we don’t have a 24/7 police station in the entire district, it’s fallen by the wayside. We need someone who’s going to rattle some cages and jump up and down a bit more than we’ve had in recent years,” Ms Costello says.
Early voting has started for the November 25 byelection.
