First stab at three way coalition talks
The leaders of National, ACT and New Zealand First sat down together this morning for the first time since the October 14 election.
Christopher Luxon, David Seymour, and Winston Peters all confirmed the meeting in Tamaki Makaurau by posting photos on social media.
The only comment came from Mr Seymour, who described the hour-long hui as congenial and promising.
Kōrero is continuing through the respective parties’ negotiation teams.
The major sticking point to forming a coalition is National’s plan to fund its tax cut package though a tax on house sales to some foreign buyers, which ACT and New Zealand First oppose for different reasons.
New Zealand First is verhermantly opposed to foreign buyers re-entering the housing market.
Results from the Tāmaki Makauaru and Mount Albert recounts could be known today.
