Hipkins slammed for silence on Israel
Palestine Network Aotearoa chair John Minto says Labour leader Chris Hipkins’ lack of criticism of Israel will leave an indelible stain on his party unless he does something over his last few days in Government.
He says the Prime Minister was quick to condemn the attacks by Hamas fighters on Israeli civilians on October 7 – which the network also condemned as war crimes under the Geneva Convention – but then went silent.
“He hasn’t condemned the numerous war crimes that Israel has committed over the past five weeks in full view of the public. I think this is leaving an indelible stain on the Labour Government as it leaves office and it’s a stain that will remain with them throughout their history,” Mr Minto says.
He says what’s going on in Gaza is a genocidal rampage on innocent people, and New Zealand should call for an immediate ceasefire.
