Māori wardens join water safety promotion

Gisborne’s harbourmaster has teamed up with Māori wardens to promote water safety this summer.
This week is Safer Boating Week – Haumaru Moana.
Peter Buell says New Zealand has a poor record for drownings, and the more people we can get to understand water safety, the more we can keep improving those numbers.
He says if people don’t have the right size lifejacket, the council has some available for loan from its offices and the Gisborne boat tamp.
In the New Year, the water safety team will head up the Coast to deliver safety messages directly to boaties at popular areas like Uawa/Tolaga Bay, Tokomaru Bay, Waipiro Bay, Ruatorea, Tikitiki, Te Araroa and Wharekahika.
