Caretaker Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta says the international community must rally around to de-escalate the situation in Gaza and push for a two state solution.
Ms Mahuta says while the attack by Hamas militants on Israel must be condemned, the response should be proportionate – and yesterday’s attack on a hospital was clearly not proportionate and in breach of international law.
“The other element to this, because of the significant loss of civilian life, is how we get humanitarian aid into the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Gaza, to be able to support people who likely have no water, no food,” she says.
Nanaia Mahuta says war won’t fix problems which have been going on for more than 70 years.
