Path to peace through justice for Palestine

Greens co-leader Marama Davidson says Israel’s response to a surprise attack by Hamas militants is disproportionate and in breach of international conventions.
Israel has cut off power and food supplies and bombarded gaza where more than 2 million people live, half of them children.
Israel has also mobilised 360,000 reserve troops as it readies for a ground attack.
Ms Davidson, who was detained by Israel in 2016 while on a Global Women’s Peace flotilla attempting to deliver humanitarian supplies to the tiny enclave, says Maori should understand the right the Palestinian people have to resist colonisation.
She says attacks on innocent people of whatever side are horrific and abhorrent.
“No country has any right to use excessive force and disproportionate response and flattening Gaza is not a proportionate response. I think what we need to get to is recognising that enduring peace will only come through the justice for Palestine,” Ms Davidson says.
She says victims of violence must never be blamed for violence.
